The Vuelta is in Andalusia. After the start last Saturday in Malaga, the Spanish three-week cycling race has also already visited Marbella and Ronda. Yesterday, the Vuelta peloton passed Granada on its way to the final climb in the Sierra de la Alfaguarra. The American Ben King won the stage there. The Polish champion Kwiatkowski rides in the Red jersey as leader in the general classification.
Beautiful TV images from Andalusia
Today the riders started in Granada and the Vuelta will follow a somewhat mountainous route along the southern flank of the Sierra Nevada on the way to the coast. The finish is in Roquetas de Mar.
Meanwhile, the Spanish TV has shot beautiful pictures of Andalusia during the race. For example, the gap in Ronda and the Alhambra in Granada came into the picture (see also the photos). Andalusia is a beautiful area for tourism in general, but also for cycling tourism.
Andalusia is suitable for cycling enthusiasts in spring and late season
It is, of course, still quite warm in southern Spain. The top cyclists can handle this well. But for the amateur cyclist it might be better to go to Andalusia in the late season or in spring.
You do not necessarily have to bring your road bike from your home country to be able to cycle in Andalusia. More than enough bicycle rental companies are available there.
Plenty of bike rental available in Andalusia
All in all, there is plenty to do in terms of environment and there are plenty of opportunities in terms of cycle hire to make a nice holiday in Andalusia as a bicycle tourist. If you follow the trail of the first 5 days of the Vuelta of this year, you will automatically pass beautiful places.
